1. Hi Depopulation Department. How are you?
Hi Atandistorted… we are fine, having a summer holiday these days and trying to avoid the pandemic we all are suffering. We really hope that you and your readers are also feeling good.

2. When and how is the band started?
The band has been started in mid 2017 and it happened because we all know each other for a long time, more than 30 years, some of us had been playing together in former bands and wanted to do it again but playing a different style. We have played Grindgore, Death Metal and Hardcore and it is time to go back to an important part of our common roots so we decided to start a Crust/Punk band.

Firstly we recorded a few songs in order to look for a label that would be interested in our music and got several offers, but the very first ones in showing interest were the Italian guys from SPIKEROT RECORDS. They are a young label, original, and noticed that they are doing a good job. We also started this new project and were convinced that it would be good for both parts so we reached and agreement to release our first EP “Life Kills” and our debut album.

3. Who is in the band right now?
Nowadays we are the original band, formed by Ana (Guitar / Vocals) & Luisma (Guitar / Vocal) the two of them also members of Gore Grinders HAEMORRHAGE, Jose (Drums), ex-original member of HAEMORRHAGE and ex-ULTIMO GOBIERNO and Lucky (Bass), ex-original member of AVULSED.

4. Please describe your music and sound?
We really don’t mind labels. Punk, Crust, Hardcore, call it whatever… we are generally described as raw, loud and uncompromissed Crust / Punk with D-beat touches. Be aware of our new songs because they are even quicker and forceful. In advance you can listen to “Condemned To Extinction” which video was released a few months ago and spread like wildfire in social media… then you can judge our style by yourself.

5. List the bands that influence you?
About our influences I can tell you that they are very wide and varied, mainly we listen to Death, Grind, Thrash, Heavy Metal… but the biggest influences for the band come generally from the big classics of punk/crust/D-Beat of the 80s. We listen to bands as diverse as DOOM, SKITSYSTEM, TRAGEDY, ROTTEN SOUND, TERRORIZER, NAPALM DEATH, DISFEAR, ENTOMBED, G.B.H., THE HELLACOPTERS, R.I.P., NECRONY, WOLFBRIGADE, NASUM, SACRILEGE, WARWOUND, NAUSEA, THE EXPLOITED, DISCHARGE, JUDAS PRIEST, ANTHRAX, CONFLICT, BAD RELIGION, ALPINIST, MISFIST, ANTI-CIMEX, EXTREME NOISE TERROR, TORSÖ, URSUT, MARTYRDÖD, DEAD KENNEDYS, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, THE VARUKERS, FREDAG DEN 13:E, WARCOLLAPSE…

6. What were written in the lyrics?
Luisma is the one who write the lyrics. Each one of us were/is involved mostly in Grind and Death Metal bands so we used to sing about gore, monsters, demons and so on. With Depopulation Department we just wanted to express our feelings towards the sick world we live in, songs talk about the life itself, how human being is obssessed with their self destruction and the destruction of any other especie we consider inferior to us, about how the powerful control our lives, unjustness against the wicker ones… in short, condem all we don’t agree with. We are against everything!!

7. Tell us futher about your releases?
By now we have released our debut EP “Life Kills” in CD format, with 7 songs, supported by three video clips, of the songs “Sota”, “Wounds Of War” and the one who titles the EP “Life Kills”,  all of them can be seen through our official pages in social media or YouTube. The CD can be bought through ourselves or through SPIKEROT RECORDS or if you prefer through the main digital platforms.

8. How often do you play gigs?
We have not hit the stage with Depopulation Department already. To be honest we had not enough songs to make a proper show nor wanted to play a few songs and then play a thousand covers, now that we have a huge amount of songs to play due to the pandemic we had to delay it. We have been receiving offers to play several shows and even some small festival outside but we had to refuse due to this. Hopefully in short everythings gets better with the pandemic and we could star playing live, we all are willing to.

9. What are the plans for the future?
Now we are very busy composing and recording at the same time since we are planning to release several things before the end of the year. First of all, the cassette version of our debut EP debut “Life Kills” through American label BLOOD SCYTHE RECORDS, also a Split LP/Cassette with Philippine based in Dubai Crustcore band, CRITICOS DE LA MUERTE, to be released with the same american label. And a bit later a new EP expected to be released in 7" and CD format through Spanish label HECATOMBE RECORDS, and finally if the pandemic allow us we would like to record our debut album that we’ll be released again through Italian label SPIKREROT RECORDS.

10. Say something for the last?
Only thank you for the interview and for all the support through your fanzine Reveal. Thank you also to all who read this interview and ask them to spend a few time listening to our music. We hope to see you all soon in stage.
