Review: DECIUS - Prepare To Die

DECIUS - Prepare To Die (CD 2020)
When talking about Singapore’s extreme metal legendaries, it’s not only about Abhorer or Impiety. There are a lot others, Profancer / Beheaded Nasrani (later changed to Profanation), Debauchery (now known as Eibon), Libation / Itnos, Nuctemeron, Stukas… just to name a few. DECIUS is one of them. My first experience with Decius was through a split-tape called BlackWinds Trivelation (also featuring their countrymates, Hail and Requiem). It was long time ago, in which the tape has been released in 1999. After that, I barely heard this name anymore, or maybe I was the one who overlooked about a compilation release that was released about 10 years ago. DECIUS through this album, “Prepare To Die” CD 2020 released by Vrykoblast Production, is absolutely wicked. Chaotically brutal in music and sinister in term of sound. Containing of 9 tracks including an outro; it’s approximately 30 minutes of warcult armageddon, blasphemous and hateful Black Metal. Rapid riffs and high-speed beats dominate in total, and the vocals abominate all, mercilessly. I believe that Decius and their masterpiece “Prepare To Die” will be a perfect fit for Blasphemy and Impaled Nazarene fans. To conclude it, this is pure fuckin’ holocaust. Fear the apocalypse!

Review: OMENFILTH - Devourer of the Seven Moons

OMENFILTH -
Devourer of the Seven Moons (2019, remixed version 2020)
Listening to “Devourer of the Seven Moons”, the third full album of OMENFILTH really brings me back to old Greek stuffs such as KAWIR “Eumenides” EP 1994 and NORDOR “His Fictitious Grandeur” EP 1993. I don’t know why but I personally sure that Omenfilth from the Philippines itself sounds like Traditional / Ancient Black Metal and Occult Death Metal, falling in between. I might be wrong but I couldn’t refuse my mind from thinking that Hellenic black/death cults give a huge inspiration to the music and sound of Omenfilth. Perhaps there are also some influences from the demo-era of Moonspell and Samael. You can consider anything because I believe every listener must have a different opinion, but in the end, Omenfilth is Omenfilth. Profoundly dark, eerie and horrible! All the songs are well-composed, very good in musical arrangement; conveying a variety of structures and melodies. I honestly never ever know about Omenfilth until recently Deathfiend (vocals/guitars) introduced me this band which based in San Pablo City, Laguna. As per said, “Devourer of the Seven Moons” is a conceptual album about the ancient Filipino mythological dragon, the Bakunawa. This created an identity to the band. And Omenfilth also did an impressive cover on Volcano’s Bloody Vengeance. The album was originally released on CDs and cassette-tapes by Eternal Death (USA) in 2019 and the one get reviewed here is the remixed/remastered, self-released version in early 2020 with a different artwork. A decent album, indeed.

Review: CULTO DEL CARGO - Memorie In Lingua Morta

CULTO DEL CARGO - Memorie In Lingua Morta (12" LP - 2020)

After releasing two 7" EPs; “Culto Del Cargo” (2011) and “Nel Nome Dell'uomo La Tecnica Macina Carne” (2014), the Italian CULTO DEL CARGO is quite quiet and about 5 to 6 years without any recordings and releases. For your information, C.D.C. has been formed in 2010, featuring members of Gelo, Caprosmorto, Timothy, Terrorarium and Corporation of Consumption. After few years of waiting period, the band finally in this year 2020 announced their most anticipated long play debut, entitled “Memorie In Lingua Morta”. The self-released 12" LP contains a total of 12 tracks, approximately 22 minutes of loud and pounding D-beat Crust Hardcore. Musicwise, C.D.C. is smashing tight and solid. Fast, sharp and full-throttle riffs with vocals that sound truthfully crushing! Their songs seem to punch you straight in your faces! Recording qualities are astonishingly brilliant, which the materials were recorded, mixed and mastered by La Distilleria - produzioni musicali. Limited to 350 copies, this die-hard 180g vinyl is absolutely a worth-buying. Support DIY punk product! www.cultodelcargo.com

Review: PATHOGEN - Ravages Of The Tyrant

PATHOGEN - Ravages Of The Tyrant (EP 2020)

PATHOGEN from San Pablo City, Philippines is a band that need no any introduction. It is a gigantic name, a veteran in the extreme music scene in the country which also known as Perla del Mar de Oriente (The Pearl of the Orient Sea). With 5 full-length albums under their belt and lots of demos and splits, Pathogen continues their prowess in 2020 through a 5-song EP titled “Ravages Of The Tyrant”. The band never fails to provide the best, quality works for their listeners and fans. Pathogen is obviously for you, classic Death Metal enthusiasts. The music in this “Ravages Of The Tyrant” is unrelenting evil, morbid and utterly devastating! This band is not the type that focuses on speed elements or blastbeats alone. In fact they are not the ones playing the technical style if that is what you are thinking. Pathogen are heavily prone to straight forward death-thrashing aggression, chaotic at times, enriched and diversified with lots of mid-paced and atmospheric doom-laden riffs. The guitar solos are inhuman and those guttural growls are deeply obscure! The EP was released on cassettes by their countrymate, Davao Hellbangers Productions and another version under Tanatofobia Productions (Ecuador/Colombia) which interestingly include an extra track, a coversong originally performed by Filipino punk legend Dead Ends. Check out this killer stuff, it is masterpiece by all means!

Interview: VERMINATOR (Malaysia)

VERMINATOR from Kuala Terengganu is undoubtedly one of the best Thrash Metal band in Malaysia. The band consists of Yoe Firestorm (guitar/vocal), Jim Reinigen (bass/vocal) and Neuroth (drum/vocal). – Interviewed in September 2020, by Atandistorted.

Hello Verminator. Whats up today?
Hello, we are all doing great and free from covids for now.

Heard that you guys preparing/recording new album, whats the current progress?
The drum track is 100% ready now wait for the perfect time to insert the guitar and bass tracks.

Any dates set for the release (of the new album)?
It should be launched this year (2020) but due to the worldwide outbreaks we think now is not the best time to launch any material.

How do you see it will differ from your debut full-length?
This time the song is more complex and varied and slightly technical compared to the previous album.

Does the first album “Fatal Devastation” spread well? How far it goes?
We think Fatal Devastation is acceptable to most of listeners not to expect this to happen as it is our first piece of releases.

Some said you guys heavily influenced by Teutonic Thrash Metal so whats your comment about it?

We do not label ourselves with such titles perhaps only listener self thought. We prefer sharp dark guitar riffs and fast drums.

You seems deeply interested in war themes based  on your artworks and lyrics. Do you think we need wars in this life?
We are very interested in the history of the old war.. it is hoped that evil events will not repeat ever after. we must start a war against ourselves to control our passions with today’s challenging world.

What do you think about current COVID-19 pandemic? Is it a biological weapon of modern warfare more than just a virus/disease?
Covid-19 many theories that we think are catastrophic in return for what we have done in this world or maybe the weapons of a certain party but who know?

Any stuffs / merch available for sale?
CDs, tshirts and tapes are still available now but very few.

Thanks. Final words?
Thank you REVEAL for interviewing us hope we meet one day. The second release will be ready soon. Stay safe and enjoy the extreme music!

Review: PAGANFIRE - Play Loud & Fuck The Rest!

PAGANFIRE - Play Loud & Fuck The Rest! (Promo 2018)

Based in Quezon City, PAGANFIRE should be no stranger to the Philippines’ underground. They are even getting more attention in the worldwide metal scene, no doubt about it. Formed back in 2003, Paganfire managed to unleash countless demos, splits, EPs, live and compilation albums, and certainly the well-accepted full-length “Wreaking Fear and Death” (2013). What we have here is a self-released Promo CDR, entitled “Play Loud & Fuck The Rest!” which consisted of 11 songs. It is a compilation of formerly recorded tracks, I think, and some might be previously unreleashed especially those live captures (I don’t know, we have to ask the band). Paganfire delivers intense and aggressive Thrash Metal at its finest way. Some are Black/Death-fueled and few with Crust ‘n’ Roll tastes! It sounds truly cool without leaving behind the old-school Thrash essentials; fullspeed, crushingly heavy, blistering guitarworks and screeching vocals. In addition to the well-composed original songs, you should also listen to their cover on Gehennah’s Hellstorm and their homage to Sepultura; ‘Bestial Devastation’ and ‘Warriors of Death’. Everything contained in this CD sounds stunning, with top-notch recording qualities. Hail Filipino Thrash! Email: paganfire13@yahoo.com

Review: PERPETUAL - Grind Squad Terror

PERPETUAL - Grind Squad Terror (EP 2019)

This is something to be acknowledged that PERPETUAL is a huge name in the Malaysian underground Grindcore scene. The band has existed since the mid-90s with a lot of demo releases and split projects. The band, which is based in Sabah, unleashed their debut full-length “Grind Your Mind” on November 25, 2013 and the continuation, on January 15, 2019 they came up the new brand materials; 7-song EP entitled “Grind Squad Terror”. This 15:18-minute CD is another proof of the maturity of PERPETUAL today, which is already 25 years old. The band always provides heaviness, solidness, high-speed and groovy forms at the same time and increasingly varies in the composition of their songs without leaving out the essential elements of the 90s-style Grindcore. It is brutal and harsh! This CD is the release of their own label, The Noise Production.

Review: RAPIÑA - Apocalipsis y Miedo

RAPIÑA - Apocalipsis y Miedo” (Demo 2019)

Anger, protests and rebellious spirits are forcefully expressed through songs presented by RAPIÑA from Mexico. The band plays thrashing and loud hardcore punk. They are heavy and noisy in sound, and excellent crusty vocals. For those interested in crossover tunes, as well as fans of bands like DRI, Nuclear Assault, Napalm Death, or Hirax for example, you are advised to check Rapiña as well. It is great and fuckin’ underground!

Review: VERBAL RAZORS - Settling Of Scores

VERBAL RAZORS - Settling Of Scores (CD 2009)
French band Verbal Razors is straight up crossover madness, not unlike Suicidal Tendencies or Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, to be obvious, but there are some real thrashing here. “Settling Of Scores” is more thrash than punk, with some cool gang shouts and real gnarly riffs. What we have here is a pummeling assault of simple catchy riifs, some nice grooves, just in your face crossover from this 4-piece with a driving bass behind it all and with a suprisingly nice production. The drums are very clear, punchy bass and guitar and even the vocals have a decent clarity. Give them a listen!

Review: TOXIC SOCIETY - Self-Titled

TOXIC SOCIETY - Self-Titled (EP 2019)
Originated in Salatiga, Indonesia, Toxic Society was formed in mid-2018, consisting of Candra (vocals), Lutfhi (guitars), Aldo (guitars), Diaz (bass), and Alif (drums). The EP reviewed here contains 5 high-speed tracks which enough to get your adrenaline pumped. Imagine that you are riding a motorbike with a loud exhaust sound, pull the fuel and go as fast as you can. This crossover thrasher heavily influenced by DRI, Municipal Waste, Iron Reagan, Suicidal Tendencies and Toxic Holocaust.
