Biography: PERTURBACIÓN (Honduras)

PERTURBACIÓN - Death Metal from Honduras

Perturbación is a Honduran Death Metal band originally from Tegucigalpa, born in 2010 at the initiative of different musicians from the Death Metal scene of that city. Their first concert was in 2011 and since then they have played in the main cities of Central America, these being Managua, San Salvador, Guatemala City and San José de Costa Rica.

Perturbación has participated in important national festivals such as Megametal, Wacken Honduras, Independent Fest in El Salvador. In Honduras they have performed in the largest cities of the country, which makes them the few Honduran bands to travel the Central American region and with international projection.

Initially the group consisted of Max Staildl ex Blasfemia, César Suazo, Juan Amador ex Malditos Ojos, Jacko Amaya Blasfemia, Bastard and Rodrigo Escobar ex Blasfemia.

In 2013 Max Staildl drums left the band and was replaced by Javier Cañadas and in 2017 César Suazo and Juan Amador left Perturbación due to differences and to concentrate on their projects and were replaced by Nieguill Calona, former vocalist of the band Tras las línea Enemigas, in voices, who makes his debut at the 2018 Megametal Festival in Tegucigalpa Honduras, with a skeptical public and that when we saw our presentation we received good criticism, for the new disturbance and the reactivation to the stages at that time in and David Valle, bassist in G.O.D. and Exequias on bass, a musician who had already worked with the band in the recent past, in 2018 Javier Cañadas is expelled from the band and Alejandro Martínez is recruited, drummer in Cantaxiia and Soul Perversor on drums who has him added his crushing style on drums especially on new themes.

Currently the original line-up survives Jacko Amaya - Lead Guitar and Rodrigo Escobar - Rhythm Guitar. The definitive formation of the group is now established as follows:
Nieguill Calona - Voices
Jacko Amaya - Lead Guitar
Rodrigo Escobar - Rhythm Guitar
David Valle - Bass
Alejandro Martínez - Drums

The main influences have been Old School Death Metal and we have tried to remain faithful to that style which is the one we like, regardless of new trends in extreme music, always following their concepts we looked for a name for the band that was a single word that described what we wanted to do as musicians and the word seemed appropriate to the concept of the band.

Perturbación features the demo “Devastación de la Serenidad”, which came out in virtual format in 2011 - and currently features two singles “Sirviente de la Locura” and “Víctima de un Macabro Placer” that are part of the themes of what will be a first album, which is in process with very good progress.

The source of inspiration for the lyrics comes from horror books, horror movies, stories of serial killers and especially what we live in our cities that become heinous news of murders, dismemberments and of course the conflicts that obsessions provoke, fanaticism, and certain mental illnesses in the human being. Therefore our lyrics are brutal and very direct in terms of content, because that is the reality in a third world country, it is a violent and very brutal reality.

Interview: BLOODBATH RECORDS (Japan)

BLOODBATH RECORDS is undoubtedly a long-running and one of the oldest independent record/production/distribution labels in Japan. I’ve known Yutaka Kimura (label owner) since the mid-90s when I started to wholesale and distribute some Bloodbath Records releases; among which include Grind The Faces Of Rockstars comp.tape, Bizarre Abnormality comp.tape, Deviant “Deviant Mass-Turbation” tape, demotapes from bands such as Intestine Baalism, Carcass Grinder, Desperate Corruption and a few more that I myself have forgotten, as well as his old good fanzine Gouon‘zine. Through Kim and his label, I learned a lot about the Japanese extreme/underground music scene. Thank you Kim for the long friendship. Well, here is a special discussion about the respected Bloodbath Records. - Interviewed by Atandistorted, 13 August 2022

1: Hello Yukata Kimura. What’s up today? Introduce a little background about yourself?
Hi, I am still alive!!! After pandemic of Covid-19, I am slowly running label (Bloodbath Records) and organizing shows in Koiwa, Tokyo (Koiwa Death Fest. since 2000 and Distro. Day since 2020). I am Yutaka Kimura from Japan, I start my activities since 1994 in Kyoto, Japan. I love Malaysian scene extremely, because when I visited to KL in 1992 first time, I am very surprised at existence of many cassette shops in the shopping mall or other places and found big scene there. At that time, I bought many cassette tapes and still have them. VSP rules! In Japan, death metal/grind core are still underground, from that time we could not buy the stuffs in any shopping mall.

2: Congratulations for keeping Bloodbath Records active & productive for so long. Share the establishment history of the label and what exactly encouraged you to form it?
I started the label from 1994. To make the scene in Kyoto strong, it is the biggest reason. From that time I fully supported Grind Core/Death Metal music. To spread that kind of styles, I start the label. At the beginning, I released home dubbed cassette tapes and 7-inch vinyls. First CD release is 2000 (BIMI028 2000 BRUTALITY REIGNS SUPREME (Holland) - Back From The Dead). I was also organizing shows in Kyoto, Japan (In Sonic Chaos), invited many bands from Tokyo or foreign countries (Warsore from Australia, Birdflesh from Sweden, and so on). I was more into Grind Core styles, because my friends in Kyoto are mostly Hard Core/Fast Core freaks.

3: What are the types and criteria of bands you like to sign and work with under your label?
It is only feeling what I want to support. Of course underground extreme-style bands; Death Metal, Grind Core, Hard Core, Noise Grind, Black Metal, and so on.

4: What are some of the best moments you’ve had while running Bloodbath Records, and have you had any bad & difficult times?
It was always fun for me. But when I was very busy for my real job, I ripped off some people in the world. Because I had no time to communicate, trade, distribute, I want to apologize it around 15 years ago. After that, I became more slow and lazy… And my organizing shows were also always great moments, I could have a lot of friends over the world. I cannot count it.

5: List the 10 most essential products (band/release title/year) under the Bloodbath Records discography according to your personal preferences?

7: Tell us about some of the gigs & festivals you have organized?
In Sonic Chaos from 1995, in Kyoto/Osaka Japan - I already mentioned above, I organized shows in 27 times until 2014.

Koiwa Death Fest. from 2000, in Koiwa Tokyo Japan - Still continuing. Currently total 85 times happened. Many many bands have played from all over the world, like HUMILIATION from Malaysia, XANADOO from Singapore, DEAD INFECTION from Poland, DEAD from Germany, AGATHOCLES from Belgium, NUN SLAUGHTER from US, AGENTS OF ABHORRENCE from Australia, MEINHOF from UK, FETUS SLICER from Taiwan, ENEMA TORTURE from Taiwan, PENIS GEYSER from US, DIE PIGEON DIE from Australia, WARMASTER from US, PULMONARY FIBROSIS from France, EMBRYOPATHIA from France, SULSA from Korea, SEDEM MINUT STRACHU from Slovakia, DECHE-CHARGE from Canada, STARGAZER from Australia, 2 MINUTA DREKA from Italy, BRUTAL BLUES from Norway, DERANGED INSANE from Brazil, ABERRANT from US, ARSEDESTROYER from Sweden, BODIES LAY BROKEN from US, UTTER BASTARD from US, and many more to be mentioned.

Distro. Day, in Koiwa Tokyo Japan - Still continuing, Co-organizing with Jero from Abigail. The name of event is inspired from Malaysian scene. And because of Pandemic, we were forced into limited activities. So I decided to organized the small show in daytime because I don’t want to stop anything. That was the reason to start. Already 11 times happened.

Hai Ba Trund Deathfest from 2017 to 2020, in Hanoi Vietnam. When I was living there, I organized 8 shows, invited the bands from Japan or other countries. The biggest bands are INCANTATION from US and DEIPHAGO from Philippines. When I lived in Vietnam, for me really great because it was really easy to go to KL and joined many shows in Malaysia. I could join so many shows, those were also great memories for me.

8: How do you see the future of Bloodbath Records, for the next few years to say the least?
I will continue something surely in underground deeply. It will be 100 percent. We need to pass our activities on to the next generation, that will be next purpose to continue.

9: Please share some information about your legendary Gouon zine? Have you ever thought of going back to editing and publishing the fanzine?
Oh, too old, but it was professional printed fanzine I edited/published in 1994-1995 in Kyoto. I released 2 issues and both were limited 200 copies each. I wrote a lot of reviews about Malaysian cassette tapes on pages. These stuffs were bought in KL directly as I mentioned above, not promotion or something. I only introduced my collection at that time, haha!

Currently in Japan, many printed media stopped the activities. In that situation, my friends started new underground magazine called GUT ZiNE from 2020, then of course I am supporting it. Unfortunately the magazine is written only in Japanese, but the front cover is always featuring cute girl photo, haha. But the contents are so maniac for normal people, please check in near future.

Personally I can’t start the fanzine again. Because it is needed to spend many times and efforts. To need to share tasks with friends is the best way to keep it.

10: Last question: What do you think about current Japanese metal/grind underground scene? Any new bands with great potential?
We need young generation, all bands and people in scene became old (average year 30-40, I guess). Young is power to keep our history. I don’t know much bands or people under 30 years old. It is serious issue in current Japanese scene. Old people still buy vinyls, cassettes, and CD’s even though they can download the contents of them. That is the biggest gap between young people and us. I respect Malaysian scene, because still many people buy physical stuffs.

Interview: RIBAG SUDE (Indonesia)

RIBAG SUDE is  3-piece Hardcore Punk / D-beat Raw Punk mob from Medan, Indonesia. The first release is an EP entitled “Krisis D.I.Y” Tape 2015. After approximately 5-6 years of silence due to line-up problems, the band is back with a second Cassette-EP, “Warvictims”. Both of these releases are under Bukan Record. RIBAG SUDE is also actively involved in several splits and compilations, among which are “Crust War Raw Attack” 8-way split, No Class For Hell Crust Sound compilation tape vol.2 (Sound of Chaos Records), Noise-82 compilation tape (Noise-82 Records, Bandung), Bebas Merdeka #4 compilation CD (Lapak Punk Records, Pangandaran - Jawa Barat), etc. Let’s read our conversations with the vocalist and guitarist, Ijas. - Interviewed by Atandistorted, 31 May 2022

Hello guys. What’s up today?
Hello Reveal Fanzine. We are fine and healthy.

Please tell us the history of Ribag Sude and introduce the current band members? What’s the exact meaning behind the band name?
RIBAG SUDE was formed in 2009, starting from the interest of 3 youngsters to d-beat punk music. At that time we were enjoying traditional alcoholic drinks (tuak) while playing a cassette tape of Singapore Punk Holocaust 4-way split featuring MINUS, BLINDED HUMANITY, HATRED JACKALS and DISTRUST. Because of that, the idea has emerged to form a raw d-beat band. We started composing some songs and started performing at some punk gigs. However, it only lasted a year and then Ribag Sude began to vacuum. At the end of 2014 we returned with the new formation and had recorded 9 tracks. In early 2015, Ribag Sude officially released its first album “Krisis D.I.Y” which was released by Bukan Record. A year later the bass player Hendri stepped out of Ribag Sude and the vacancy was filled by Sadam, and then until 2017 Sadam was replaced by Said. In 2018 our drummer Ian left the band and was replaced by Gadonk. Ribag Sude was on hiatus again until 2021 where the band bounced back with new current members; Ijas (guitar/vocals), Kinoi (bass), Gadonk (drums). Along with this line-up we produced an EP we called is as “Warvictims” and was just released by Bukan Record a few months ago. We got the name Ribag Sude from the local language (Batak). For information, Batak is one of the tribes in the area where we live, namely Medan, which is indeed very identical with this tribe. Ribag in Indonesian means “Hantam”, or “Hit” in English while Sude is “Semua” (or “All” in English). RIBAG SUDE is HANTAM SEMUA in Indonesian translation, which means HIT ALL!

More than 10 years existed in the scene, how do you rate the band achievements as far? Where do you put the position of Ribag Sude in the entire Indonesian hardcore punk scene?
Apart from being a medium to convey worries and awareness through lyrics, for us this band is to have fun and become a platform to make friends, especially in the hardcore punk scene. Yes, we still put ourselves in the D.I.Y movement, just like other crust bands.

Please describe in details about your musical style and share some of your major inspirations and influences in composing music?
We play d-beat raw punk/crust musically, inspired by some d-beat raw/crust bands such as Anti Cimex, Disclose, Doom, Disarm, Pisschrist, Discharge and other crust bands.

Say something about your debut EP “Krisis D.I.Y” (Cassette-Tape 2015)? How difficult it was to release the first official EP and did it meet your satisfaction?
“Krisis D.I.Y” is our first album containing 9 songs released by Bukan Record. “Krisis D.I.Y” we took it from one of the song titles in the EP. Actually it’s not too difficult, because there happened to be a friend who helped the process of mixing, mastering, and duplicating the cassettes. Well, that’s the first recording, of course, we feel that there are still a lot of things that are lacking, but it doesn't matter, it can be a lesson for us for the next album.

Congratulations for the releasing of new EP “Warvictims” (Cassette-Tape 2021). Tell us everything about this new EP regarding the songwritings, recording sessions, sound production, artworks, etc?
Thank you bro. This EP can be realized after Ribag Sude got a new line-up formation, because before that the band was on hiatus for a while. With this new line-up we have planned to record and prepare new songs for the next material. Regarding songwriting, most of the songs wrote by me, Ijas (guitars/vocals). Then we discussed each song during rehearsal sessions. Within 2 weeks we managed to write some songs and started practicing in the music studio. We rehearsed twice and got 5 songs. In the next practice we got 2 more songs. Then at the 4th meeting we immediately recorded, but the sound quality was not satisfactory, so we had to repeat the recording once again. For the recording process, we recorded live until finally all the songs were successfully released.

How do you see Ribag Sude progressed and developed in this second new brand EP as compared to the first one? Do you accomplished anything through “Warvictims” EP?
In this second EP, the music is neater than the previous one. Yes we are so much more satisfied with this second EP.

Bukan Records has given their full commitments on both of your EPs. Lets talk something about this trusted label?
Bukan Record is our close relative, a record label that fully supports punk bands in our city to produce physical releases in particular. Apart from owning a music studio, recording facilities and a screen printing production house, Bukan Record has also released many punk bands in this city, especially for crust & grind bands. Bukan Record also organizes band tours from out of town and even from international bands who want to tour in our city. You can get in touch with the label via email: bukanrecord@gmail.com or instagram: @bukanrecord.

Ribag Sude also featured in some splits and compilations. What do you think about these release-formats? Do you gained anything from the appearances?
The main thing for us to be involved in the compilation is just to increase the network of friendship and communication with the hardcore punk scene movement wherever they are. Yes, from several compilations, we usually get royalties in the form of cassettes of these compilations.

Please explain more about your lyrical themes and topics? Do you think that messages are truthfully important from a hardcore/d-beat/crust bands just like Ribag Sude?
The theme is still about social criticism, anti-war and the like. In the first EP we gave the title “Krisis D.I.Y” because it tells about our dislike of punks who stepped away from the concept of punk resistance itself. We are against punk rockstars / punk idols who act like mainstream artists because they are caught up in trends and enslaved by the capitalists. In our second EP entitled “Warvictims”, it's about the destruction caused by war, the annihilation of the world, killing the innocents, all paid for in blood. Warfare is the most cruel savagery in the history of human civilization. Stop All Wars Now!!!

Please report briefly about hardcore punk / underground music scene in Medan and Sumatra? Are there any fanzines around there?
Hardcore punk/underground music in Medan and Sumatra is growing in recent times. There have been a lot of releases from several bands from every city popping up. Yes, there are some fanzines such as: New Kicks, Diszine, Setara zine.

Thank you. Any last words?
Yes, thank you again. Glad to be able to share info in this fanzine. Greetings from us Ribag Sude, may we all be given good health and long lasting friendship. Message from us: stay punk, keep enjoying and don’t forget to stop by our city if there is a band that wants to tour in Indonesia. Contact us on instagram: @ribagsude_official or email: ribag.sude@yahoo.com. Cheers!

Review: GRIMORIUM VERUM / CABRA INFERNAL - Vientos Del Pasado Y La Maldición Eterna

GRIMORIUM VERUM (Ecuador) / CABRA INFERNAL (Ecuador) - “Vientos Del Pasado Y La Maldición Eterna” Split 2022
Ecuadorian Black Metal heinous conspiracy! A magnificent 2-way split cassette even though the sound quality is not at the best level, but the mission & vision behind it has surpassed everything. This profane alliance entitled “Vientos Del Pasado Y La Maldición Eterna” consists of 7 tracks with around 40 minutes. Grimorium Verum is said to be the first Black Metal act in Ecuador. The band presents 4 tracks; 3 songs recorded in rehearsals in 1998 and never released before and an additional live song are also included. Cabra Infernal contributes 3 songs taken from a rehearsal prior to the recording of their 2 new albums, which were recorded this year 2022. Both of them have a raw sound (because these are rehearsal versions) of Black Metal but each has their own character. Grimorium Verum is more raw and sounds ancient meanwhile Cabra Infernal is quite grim and satanically unholy! Unleashed by Aniquilación Satánica Producciones, this split is indeed something exclusive, containing recording materials from two different times but amalgamated by the same essence. This, a darkest treasure of the mighty Andes, absolutely!

Review: HELL FURY / ARCHDEMON / DIABO / UNHOLY IMPALER - Journey Through the Flames of Hatred and Blasphemy (Rehearsal Sessions Vol.1)

HELL FURY (Ecuador) / ARCHDEMON (Finland) / DIABO (Brazil) / UNHOLY IMPALER (Italy) - “Journey Through the Flames of Hatred and Blasphemy (Rehearsal Sessions Vol.1)” Split 2022
This is an utter blasphemy! A four-way split of raw, filthy, and True Black Metal that meant to be forever underground! Unchained under Ancient Cult Records, “Journey Through the Flames of Hatred and Blasphemy (Rehearsal Sessions Vol.1)” features underrated yet low-profile dark demonic legions; Hell Fury (Ecuador), Archdemon (Finland), Diabo (Brazil) and Unholy Impaler (Italy). All four of these bands grew from the same Black Metal roots; hateful, impiously desecrating and utmost unholiness but each of them has grown and sprouted in different branches, bringing forth different and distinctive styles/sub-genres without forgetting the essences of Black Metal. This is the most interesting and most important thing about this split-tape. Satan eternally rules!

Review: ECHELON - Open Wide the Adamantine Gates

ECHELON (UK/Sweden) - “Open Wide the Adamantine Gates” Full-length 2022
Echelon is a Death Metal supergroup with members of Hail of Bullets, Bolt Thrower, Paganizer, Benediction, Johansson & Speckmann, Putrevore, Ribspreader and more! It’s an exclusive project of Dave Ingram (vocals) and Rogga Johansson (guitars), teamed up with Johan Berglund (bass) and Brynjar (drums). “Open Wide the Adamantine Gates” released on June 30, 2022 by the Mexican label - Iron, Blood and Death Corporation - is actually the third full-length from this band after “Indulgence over Abstinence Behind the Obsidian Veil” (2015) and “The Brimstone Aggrandizement” (2016). What can you expect and get from Echelon which consists of big names in the international Death Metal scene? Yes, it is perfect and high quality Death Metal in many respects, no doubt about that. “Open Wide the Adamantine Gates” comprises 10 songs (almost 40 minutes) of old-school Death Metal at its purest form, an amalgamation of British undead brutalities and Swedish melodic classics, a reminiscence of 80s/90s Death Metal undisputed heyday, and it’s charged with more hate and darkness! This is unblemished Death Metal that is very powerful and really nostalgic, created for fans of Bolt Thrower, Benediction, Dismember and Carnage. Highly recommended!

Review: THE BLACK DISORDER - The Acceptance of Humiliation

THE BLACK DISORDER (Poland) - “The Acceptance of Humiliation” Full-length 2022
The Black Disorder from Poland released a 3-track EP entitled “Monuments of Spiritual Atrocities” in October 2019. They next returned with the 8-track (41:19 minutes) full album “The Acceptance of Humiliation” in April 2022, unleashed through Iron, Blood and Death Corporation. Excellently enriched with diversified mayhemic riffs, infused with some haunting melodic parts and fearfully obscure vocals. The Black Disorder is also quite bold in its approach of some experimental features without leaving aside Black Metal essentials. Without question, this is Black Metal the way it should be.

Review: EXCRUCIATE 666 - Antic Warlord Supremacy

EXCRUCIATE 666 (France) - “Antic Warlord Supremacy” Full-length 2022
French gods of war are here again! Excruciate 666 unleashed its fourth full-length “Antic Warlord Supremacy” and it is a total explosion and massive destruction. Previously released three albums; “Riding Fires of Hate” (2010), “Rites of Torturers” (2013) and “Porkus Filth’s Crusher” (2019), Excruciate 666 through this new one - 9 tracks / 38:53 minutes - has continued their supremely dark and evil tradition. Uncompromising War Black Metal anthems, full of savagery and wickedness. “Antic Warlord Supremacy” is infernally demonic and apocalyptic!

Review: MELEKTAUS - Transcendence Through Ethereal Scourge

MELEKTAUS (Chile) - “Transcendence Through Ethereal Scourge” Full-length 2004, Reissued 2022
The debut 2004 full-length entitled “Transcendence Through Ethereal Scourge” from Chilean Santiago’s Melektaus is absolutely sinistrous! Remastered and re-released by Iron, Blood and Death Corporation on February 28th, 2022 the album contains 9 songs (34:40 minutes) of brutally vicious and ferocious Death Metal, some doom-laden passages, unrelenting razorsharp riffages, hyperblasting drums, cruelly guttural growls, and with exceptional sound quality. Some epic and classic elements have added value to the overall greatness of this album, and it’s for those who dig Morbid Angel, Behemoth, Nile and Slayer.

Review: NIHILO - Resolution

NIHILO (Switzerland) - “Resolution” Full-length 2022
Death Metal at its finest way! Old-school, crushing and dark! “Resolution” is the fourth full-length of Nihilo, released on February 25, 2022 via Iron, Blood and Death Corporation. It’s a massive evolution, a significant follow-up to the previous albums; “Concordia Perpetua” (2010, self released), “Dum Spiro Spero” (2014, Subversive Records) and “Doom” (2018, Art Gates Records). Hailing from Switzerland, Nihilo has recorded and included 11 tracks in "Resolution", mixed and mastered by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony in August - September 2021. Musically heavy and intense, Nihilo is there for the Death Metal renaissance in the Swiss underground!

Review: DEVOURER - Raptus

DEVOURER (Sweden) - “Raptus” Full-length 2022
Another superstitious release of Mexican label - Iron, Blood and Death Corporation. “Raptus” is extremely blackened metal genocide unleashed by a Swedish quartet who call themselves Devourer. This band was established in Sandviken, Gävleborg around 2002. This means that “Raptus” which was released on February 7, 2022 is an album that celebrates the 20th anniversary of their existence and this is the fourth full-length in their musical career. Devourer has previously produced three albums; “All Hope Abandon” (2013), “Across the Empty Plains” (2017) and “Dawn of Extinction” in addition to two demos and an EP. "Raptus" has comprised a total of 9 songs, approximately 42 minutes of unchallenged Black/Death metal occultism, fulfilled with rigorous ideas, vigorous songwriting, rancorous vocals and of all, murderous sound quality! Lined up by experienced musicians (having played with so many bands before) consisting of John Falk (guitars), Johan Wikholm (guitars), Fredrik Håf (vocals) and Oksana Falk (bass), Devourer is an example of a band that is in a class of its own… and it’s ultimately amazing!

Review: IMPIOUS COMMUNION - Prophecies of Catholic Extermination

IMPIOUS COMMUNION (Mexico) - “Prophecies of Catholic Extermination” Full-length 2022
Impious Communion is a Death/Black Metal project from Chihuahua - Mexico, formed in 2019 by two members of the band Mortigena. Consisting of Alan (vocals/guitars), Hircus (vocals/bass) and Nekron (drums), Impious Communion has recorded and released their debut 8 tracks full-length album CD officially on January 31st, 2022 under the banner of Iron, Blood and Death Corporation. “Prophecies of Catholic Extermination” offers a true interpretation of Black/Death Metal, hellishly empowered with impious riffages and uncompromising song compositions, viciously unrelenting drum attacks and cruelly strike through double devilish vocals. Everything sounds dark, sinister and supremely blasphemous! To conclude it all, this is 42:55 minutes of utterly satanic and anti-religion deification!

Review: KOBOLD - Technofascism

KOBOLD (Serbia) - “Technofascism” Full-length 2022
Absolutely an excellent thrash / speed metal album from Serbia’s Kobold. “Technofascism” is the third full-length from this Belgrade-based band, a follow-up to the previous two albums; “Death Parade” (2017) and “Masterpace” (2019). It contains 10 songs / 46:40 minutes of brutally executed and heavily speed, fast thrashing maniacal; packed with aggressive and technical riffs, hostile drummings, ferocious vocals (on both deadly screams and clean singing). Superlative songwriting and sound nuances that will remind you of bands such as Anthrax, Exodus, Kreator, Megadeth and the like. A killer thrash-metal release of Mexican label - Iron, Blood and Death Corporation.

Review: ONION TERROR / HORDA CANNIBAL - Human Stew

ONION TERROR (UK) / HORDA CANNIBAL (Mexico) - “Human Stew” Split 2022
Are you looking for some sick noisy stuff? If that’s what you seek, then I won’t hesitate to recommend this one… a split entitled “Human Stew” under the conspiracy of Onion Terror (from York, UK) and Horda Cannibal (from Campeche, Mexico). This is sick, sicker and even sickest rotten music to feed your greedy needs! The split has started with 7 tracks from Onion Terror, some new songs and re-recorded some covers. Extremely fast, short and in-your-face rawgrind / noise-to-the-core with heartbreaking screams from this 2-piece grindcore outfit. The remaining 5 tracks from Horda Cannibal where they decided to use the recording made by streaming Indie Fest Sauvage (in November 2021). Relentless heavy and brutal putrefying goregrind with cutthroat guttural voices. “Human Stew” is almost 27 minutes of insane, stinky and notorious sense of humor.

Review: HORDA CANNIBAL - Festival de Carne

HORDA CANNIBAL (Mexico) - “Festival de Carne” EP 2020
Brutality, gory, infinite grinding to death! This conclusion is enough to translate how terrible the EP entitled “Festival de Carne” from Mexican heavyweights Horda Cannibal is. The EP offers six tracks (around 14:35 minutes) crammed with bloody raw and aggressive noises! Horda Cannibal intelligently blend Brutal Death Metal, old-school Grindcore, Deathgrind and gore/horror elements in their musical works, making this band a goregrind unit that needs to be paid attention to. Their sound is truly intense, dominated with very tough riffs, inhuman blastbeats and monstrous vocals. You should listen to it because it will rot your flesh mercilessly!

Review: V.A. - Azores & Metal Vol #1

V.A. - Azores & Metal Vol #1 (Compilation 2021)
The Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal, are an archipelago in the mid-Atlantic. This is an enormous initiative by the Museu do Heavy Metal Açoriano bringing together 17 metal/underground bands from the Azorean islands in a CD compilation. You can listen and enjoy 17 songs in different music styles and varied genres. I don’t have any single favourite because I love all the bands, truly appreciate them all. You won’t always be able to have an exclusive compilation like this. Hope there will be a second volume later.

Review: SERMON - Single 2022

SERMON - Single 2022
Turkish Doom Death Metal act Sermon has made a comeback after a long hiatus. Based in İzmir, the band was formed in 1997 and released their debut demo “Cosmic Prisoner” that year. Then followed by two more demos; “Sea of Meanings” (1999) and “Insanity” (2004) before disappearing from the scene for about 14 years. Currently comprised of Harun Altun (vocals), Durmuş Kalin (lead guitars) and Cem Barut (rhythm guitars), Sermon has launched their new singles on February 26, 2022 featuring 3 lengthy tracks; Posthumous (8:38) / Requitement (6:33) / Destined to Decline (8:21). These promo songs are said to be included in their upcoming album tentatively entitled “Till Birth Do Us Part”, schedule to be available through Earache Digital Distribution. Although not directly signed under Earache Records, being given the space to be in the digital platform of this prestigious label is actually an achievement to be proud of. I’m not sure where Sermon get the inspirations for their music, but my sense strongly felt that there are huge influences from UK Doom Metal classics such as Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Cathedral, Anathema and Solstice, and may also be infused with Swedish doom/death elements f.ex Candlemass, Tiamat, Entombed, Katatonia, Grave (just to name a few). Atmospheric, gloomy and epic characteristics stand out in Sermon’s workpieces, well-composed and well-incorporated in their heavy riffs and loud sound. The melodic parts really caught my ear, as if there were touches of Turkish native cultures and traditions. And the vocals are undeniably tremendous. Based on these 3 monumental tracks, I expect their upcoming album to be something phenomenal!

Review: SCROLLKEEPER - Misery

SCROLLKEEPER - “Misery” Single 2022
The US Heavy Metal torchbearer is return with a new composition, “Misery” released on July 1st, 2022 and it is the first single from their next 3-song EP entitled “Wetiko” which scheduled to be unleash in the coming September. The 3:27 minutes “Misery” is undoubtedly a superb track, decent and adequate in each requirement of Heavy Metal anthem. You will detect a very interesting progress from Scrollkeeper. The presence of Andreas “Neudi” Neuderth (Manilla Road, Trance, Sudden Darkness, etc) on drums and keyboardist Velizar “Villie” Shumanov teamed up with Justin McKittrick (vocals), Alex Kamburov (guitars) and Andrew Sutton (bass) has had a massive impact on the entire quality of the band. Scrollkeeper is here bringing Heavy Metal back to the World!!

Review: SCROLLKEEPER - Auto da Fe

SCROLLKEEPER - “Auto da Fe” Full-length 2021
Scrollkeeper is a Traditional Heavy Metal act hailing from Houston, Texas that specializes in high energy, anthemic original material that is reminiscent of Metal’s halcyon days. After giving birth to their first baby, “Path to Glory” EP in September 2018, Scrollkeeper has recorded several singles and these are part of their chronology in releasing their stunning debut full-length album, “Auto da Fe” which has been officially released (digitally) on June 19, 2020. A total of 11 songs have been featured, including an instrumental on the first track (as an intro). The CD version released by the Brazilian label True Metal Records has also inserted two additional bonus songs including “Hellion”, a W.A.S.P. cover. This is an album that is truly the best in many aspects; songwriting, recording quality and sound production. I think Scrollkeeper is also influenced by the power/speed/thrash metal sub-genres based on the high-pitched vocals and the guitar riffs. In many cases, Traditional Heavy Metal that is truly classic and epic is dominant in overall presentations of the band. Recommended for all metalbangers!

Review: LEVIATHAN PROJECT - Staring Away (The Darkness)

LEVIATHAN PROJECT - “Staring Away (The Darkness)” Single 2022
This is classic Heavy Metal from Orlando, Florida. Actually, I don’t know much about Leviathan Project except referring to Encyclopaedia Metallum shows that this band has released two EPs and three full-length albums in a short period of 2 years (2021-2022). It’s indeed an interesting movement. The new single ‘Staring Away (The Darkness)’ which was released on July 15, 2022 is truly a well-composed and powerful track, an aggressive and captivating sound that combines traditional Heavy Metal with catchy melodies, haunting vocals and other worldly guitars. The quality of this band is undeniable. It’s no wonder why they’re so good because guitarist Bobby Koelble is ex-Death while vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens used to be with Judas Priest.

Review: HANDCRAFT - Experimental Play

HANDCRAFT - “Experimental Play” Demo/EP 2022
Cosmic/Space Rock? Alternative/Post-Metal? Hellyeah, you can call it anything based on your own interpretation. Everything here in this 3-tracks Demo/EP (approximately 15 minutes in total) are well-thought heaviness, experimenting with varied ideas in riffs, beats & arrangements; which has produced something that sounds fresh, modern and energetic. While the first two songs which are instrumentals play a lot with technicality and strokes, the third and longest track ‘Approaching the Light in a Chaotic Dream’ is rich with blackmetal/shoegaze elements that are engrossing. Well, Malaysia’s Handcraft is another brainchild of Hazree who is also known through many bands/projects such as Shitnoise Bastards, Badass Farmer, Ragebomb, Death To All Politicians and many others (mostly into grindcore/noisecore), Thyroid (Death Metal), Pruinosus (Black Metals), etc. Handcraft is a quite different offering from this multi-talented musician. Hats off!

Review: DERELICTED - 4th Age

DERELICTED - “4th Age” EP 2021
Wonderful, truthfully delightful! You should listen to the music of this band, I am sure you will fall in love with it all of a sudden. That’s what happened to me. Derelicted is a Doom Death Metal project from Gelsenkirchen, Germany and has released the 4 tracks EP titled “4th Age” in August 2021 which (said to be) based on Tolkien’s work. Musically, it is rooted in heavy and slow-tempo Doom Death, empowered by enchanting melodic and dreamy dark elements. In some tracks, gothic and progressive elements can also be heard. Riffages are well-structured while the music arrangement is clever, in addition to strong & great vocals. If you have ever listened to their debut single “Cataclysm” (released on April 2020), you will easily find that Derelicted is much more focused and even more mature through this “4th Age” EP.

Review: ANAMNESIS - Mens-Sana

ANAMNESIS - “Mens-Sana” EP 2022
Based in Hannut (located in the province of Liège, Belgium), Anamnesis is a new name to watch out for! The band has released their debut, 5-songs “Mens-Sana” EP on April 14, 2022 which is the result of recording and mixing at Noise Factory Studio. It is about 23:30 of heavyweight Metal threat; Stoner/Sludgy Doom oriented music with a large amount of melancholic atmospheres accentuated by samples and synthesized sounds. It is like you have been taken to a dark and gloomy valley and there you have been hit hard by fear, anger, sadness, hatred and everything that leads to self-destruction. Anamnesis is genuinely intelligent in defining pain & misery through their music and surely they will continue to evolve even more in the future.

Interview: MYTH DRANNOR (UK)

MYTH DRANNOR is a one-man band hailing from Taunton, UK and it is a side-project of multi-instrumentalist Stein from KVÖL. Managed to unleash two releases as of date; “Dark Secret of Candlekeep” (February 2022) and “In the Lair of the Illithid” (June 2022), MYTH DRANNOR is musically melodic synth-y, dungeon-y, atmospheric-y Black Metal and lyrically based around Dungeons & Dragons. I have found this project very interesting and amazing so I have no hesitation in recommending that you check it out immediately. We had a chat with Stein (vocals/all instruments) who told us more about his project. - Interviewed by Atandistorted, 11 August 2022

Hail! Please introduce yourself who is behind this project?
Hail, my name is Stefan Gilborson but I go by my pseudonym, Stein. I also compose and play in the project, KVÖL.

Please tell us when & how Myth Drannor existed and what prompted you to create this project?
My other project, KVÖL, was at a low ebb; we’d finished our second album and I had some free time so I expanded on some song ideas that I had stored on my computer which weren’t really suitable for KVÖL.

Can you describe more clearly the genre of music/sound presented by Myth Drannor, and who/what hugely inspired you?
I suppose Myth Drannor treads the line between dungeon synth and the more atmospheric variety of black metal. I’m inspired by the world of Dungeons and Dragons lyrically. Sound-wise, I’m inspired by bands like Summoning, Old Nick and Paysage D'hiver as well as Xasthur even though my material is very different to Malefic’s.

Speaking of music composition, how is a song (for Myth Drannor) written? What are the basic ideas? How do you determine the final output? What instruments and recording tools are involved?
Generally, I’ll compose a riff or guitar part when I’m fiddling around. Then, I’ll input that part into Reaper as a MIDI file. Then, I’ll use MIDI to compose things like baselines, strings etc. I love using Soundfonts for the orchestral parts because the slightly fake sound gives the songs a slightly lo-fi edge.

What are the themes and messages you want to convey through the music of this project?
I like taking the listener on a journey to another world. The lyrics tell stories from the Dungeons and Dragons world and I hope, reflect the music.

Please give the best description for each of your releases (that have been produced so far);
i- Dark Secret of Candlekeep
This release was made up of expanded leftover song ideas. The song, Dark Secret of Candlekeep, was the first completed track for this project. It was also the first song where I was happy with my screamed vocals. It think this release established the sound I want to pursue and the world I want to create.
ii- In the Lair of the Illithid
This release, as a whole, is a bit more melodic musically. I always try and push my songs into strange shapes in terms of melody. I had the chorus to In the Lair of the Illithid rattling around in my head for what seemed like forever and I knew I had to put it in a song. This release wasn’t based on previous ideas; it was all new.

Tell us your views on the current Black Metal / Dungeon Synth scene in the UK? Do they know about Myth Drannor?
There are some good UK black metal bands. I like Black Pyre who, I think, are based in Cardiff. The Infernal Sea are great. Heathen Deity are cool too. I must also give a special mention to Petrine Cross, a one woman project which is very Xasthur-esque and fantastically raw. I don’t think any of these are aware of Myth Drannor. I’m not the best at promotion haha.

Thanks. What would be next from Myth Drannor in the near future?
I will, at some point, put together a full length. I’m putting together a few ideas and would love to release it on tape but it’ll be a little way away, next year at some point. Thanks for your time.

Interview: ABIARDH (Malaysia)

Rise from the dead! ABIARDH was established in the heyday of 90’s Malaysian underground metal scene. They had the opportunity to release “Rehearsal 99” tape before disappearing and seeming to be swallowed up by time. Even so, no one thought that was not the end. ABIARDH has risen from the grave, revived in the name of spirits and passion. Consisting of Ikram (vocals), Zack (guitar), Apitz (guitar), Black (drums), Rizal (guitar) and Syam (bass), the band unleashed an exclusive compilation “Rehearsal 99/22” CD in June 2022 and it is a sign of the future release of debut full-length album that they are currently preparing. Beware of the resurrection!!! - Interviewed by Atandistorted, 4 August 2022

Hail! First of all please share the band history and lineups? Why did you go on hiatus after “Rehearsal 99” and what made Abiardh come back after more than 20 years?
Hail! We are Abiardh, hailing from Perlis. We started Abiardh as a band in the middle of the 90’s. First lineup (1996) was Ikram (Vocal), Zack (Guitar), Rizal (Guitar), Syam (Bass) & Black (Drum), but a year later Black left the band, and Zack jumped into the Drum position. Apitz was the last member to join us as Guitarist in late 1997. At the moment we release Rehearsal 99, we are just 17 years old, SPM! Haha… then after SPM, most of us further our study, and after that we are separated by our own life and career. Then, nostalgia, friendship and passion strike us back, and these are the main keys of our comebacks. Now we at least have some free time, and we think this is a great time for us to bring back the nostalgia and share our passion together again.

Do you think that with the current formation, conditions and situation Abiardh will become stronger, more viable and have a high desire to be much more successful?
Yes, this 2022 lineup is completing us in every detail. Black joined us back as drummer and Zack is now back to his previous position as guitarist and synth. We believe in teamwork in our lineup and we seem to have reincarnated stronger and more mature than before, and we hope that we can continue to contribute our “Black Art” in the Malaysian Underground Music Industry.

Congratulations on the release of “Rehearsal 99/22” CD. Is it a concrete proof of Abiardh’s present musicstyle, image and identity?
Thank you so much… and, yes, it can be said as our new identity and style of music. Apart from that, you still can hear eastern riffing style but crossover with Western & European metal style, also a pinch of middle east riff and melodic notes here and there. And for the new lineup, we have 3 guitarists, so right now our music should be more melodic and harmonic, with 3 different guitar riffs that will compliment each other, oh ya, and for our lyrics, probably more will be written in Malay Bahasa than English.

What is contained in “Rehearsal 99/22”? Tell us about the songwriting process, recording session, and also related to the production/distribution of the CD?
This Rehearsal 99/22 is proof that we still exist, and want to contribute to the scene. This rehearsal/compilation is a combination of two different eras of Abiardh, from the year 1999 and 2022. The CD contains 6 tracks, 3 tracks are taken from our Rehearsal 99 cassette, and the other 3 songs are re-recordings. Bidadari Laut is a little special because it is a song which we didn’t record in 2000. After 22 years this song is finally finished with a new arrangement. For the record, Reh99’s recording only used a small radio cassette, at that time we were all still in middle school, with no budget…haha. For Rehearsal 22, the musical arrangement was recorded at eniQma Home Studio, Kuala Lumpur, while for vocals, Ikram recorded his voice at Eric Studio, Perlis.

Except for Bayangan Sihir Hitam, vocals were recorded at Basement One Sound Lab, Putrajaya. Bayangan Sihir Hitam lyrics are re-written by One Barchiel (As Sahar, now Phenomistik), and vocal by our drummer Black, because it was recorded in the middle of MCO due to a pandemic in 2020.

This release is distributed by IllusiFana Production which is our own label, with the Abiardh Management Group as the producer for this release. There are also 5 hidden tracks in this CD. 3 of them are preview songs for our upcoming full length album.

Can you explain in detail about the musical concept and lyrical scope in Abiardh? What elements have you emphasized and made it a trademark for Abiardh?
Looking back to our 99 styles, it was more of a supernatural and mystical theme. For the new era of Abiardh, we constantly look at additional elements, such as mysterious fairy tales, humanity, war, dark history and even positive divine lyrical themes. For our musical styles, we can say that we are more into Blackened Death Metal. Rooting by Black Metal with Melodic Death, Thrash, Progressive Rock are combined into our style. As you can hear, the addition of clean vocals are also the main elements of our songs.

Who and/or what hugely influenced Abiardh, musically and lyrically?
We had plenty, because six of us are rooting to almost a different metal genre, like Black Metal for most of us, Melodic Doom Goth, Thrash Metal, Melodic Death and some Power Metal too… for musically and lyrically Darkthrone, Absu, Langsuyr, old As Sahar, Megadeth, Dark Tranquility, Cradle of Filth, Death, Samael, Deicide, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Sepultura, Dimmu Borgir, Enthroned, Burzum, Surrender of Divinity, Crusade (Indonesia), Santet, Sauts Alastor, Chthonic, Moonspell, Halloween, Gamma Ray, Ghost and many more. It’s hard to define which band has influenced us more, but maybe listening to them for almost 25 years makes us what we are now.

Does Abiardh have plans to perform live and participate in any gig events? What about the recording status for the next full-length and what can we expect from your upcoming new album?
We are expecting “Full Blast” on stage after the completion of our full album. Currently, we are focusing and 100% committed to our full album as this will be an unforgettable moment for us at least. For now we are tightening our songs and arrangements. There’s a lot of work to do, but we enjoyed doing it. Hope it will be a great release.

What is your view on the local metal/underground scene that we have nowadays compared to the previous era (1990s and early 2000s)? That's all, thanks for answering this interview.
For the local metal/underground scene, typically nothing much different within those years, but there is a lot of improvement musically especially for a new band. Oh, also a revival of 90’s metal bands is great for us too. The comeback after comeback of 90’s (even 80’s) metal bands should make our metal scenes merrier again. We are hoping for the best.

Thank you very much for the interview. We hope for the best for you and your Distorted Reports Newsletter, have a great day ahead. Our Rehearsal 99/22 CD is still available but only 5 copies left, grab it while it lasts. You guys can buy it online via IllusiFana Production shopee, or WhatsApp IllusiFana Production at 013 623 9837. It is also available at Musixhub & Mamat Records at Campbell and Rock At Large. Thanks. Metal Terusss \m/
